Spring/Summer 2022 Newsletter

Spring / Summer 2022 Newsletter

Welcome to those of you who have recently moved to our neighborhood!

New HOA Board Members
The Cross Creek HOA welcomes Toni Smedley and Christian Smitherman to the HOA Board of Directors.  Toni is the new Vice-President and is a traveling surgical nurse.  Christian is the new Treasurer and is a CPA.  A complete list of HOA Directors and officers can be found HERE.

We would like to thank the following people for their dedicated service and valuable expertise on the HOA Board:  Merle Maddocks for her service as a past Treasurer/Director and as the accountant for the HOA; David Hoha as past Director/Treasurer; Brad Bannister as past Director/Vice-President; and Jan Nolin for her current help with the clubhouse.

Our HOA could not function effectively without HOA members who volunteer to serve our community.  We also appreciate those who have come forward to volunteer in other capacities or to be considered for Board positions.

FIREWORKS REMINDER for the 4th of July
Please remember that it is illegal for private citizens to handle or discharge fireworks in the city limits of Huntsville and Madison.  All of Cross Creek is within the Huntsville City limits.

PET ISSUES
We all understand that dogs will be dogs, but the Board has had several complaints from concerned homeowners because they and their dogs were threatened or intimidated by dogs who were running loose in the neighborhood and along the walking trail. Please remember the following:
  • Any pet outside of your yard should be on a leash, according to the Covenants and leash laws.
  • Be sure your fences are secure so your pets cannot escape.
  • Be considerate of neighbors by not allowing your dogs to bark excessively or allowing your dogs or cats to wander into other people’s yards.
  • Please pick up your dog’s waste and dispose of it at home.
If you see unleashed pets or are threatened by any of them, call the Huntsville City Animal Control.

WE HAVE FENCE ISSUES
When you are driving or walking near the Capshaw entrance, you may have noticed that the wooden fences along the entrance have rapidly deteriorated in the last few months.  A few years back we spent several thousand dollars to replace some of the posts and rails and have the entire fence re-stained, hoping to forestall the inevitable replacement of the fence.

In spite of efforts over the last year or so to add bracing and screws, the fence has reached the point where it cannot be repaired in a cost-effective way.  To replace the fence with a wooden, metal, or vinyl fence would be extremely expensive, in light of current building material costs. Just the removal of the old fence will be expensive.

The Board of Directors has begun asking for bids to remove the fence. The post holes will be filled and the grass re-seeded. The current rock entrance posts and landscaping will remain. Work will begin as soon as bids are received and considered by the Board and the work is scheduled.

As a much less expensive replacement for the wooden sections of the fence, the Board will consider planting a few ornamental trees, azaleas, and/or other types of shrubs along the old fence line in the fall, if needed.  The cost to maintain them would be much less than a fence.

Example of how ornamental trees and shrubs could enhance the entrance

CROSS CREEK POOL OPENED ON MAY 7

Our HOA community has wonderful clubhouse and pool facilities for our members to enjoy, but we need your help.  Since the pool has opened, we have had complaints about the following: teenagers or young adults throwing shoes and toys belonging to younger children on top of the clubhouse; broken and loose rungs on the pool ladders from people launching off them into the pool; and food, trash, towels, clothing, and such being left around the pool and patio.

Please help us take care of our facilities by reporting maintenance issues through your Elite Portal and reminding your older children who are old enough to use the pool unsupervised about expected pool behavior. Doing so will help us to keep expenditures down.

A few other reminders about pool use…
  • NO SMOKING OR VAPING around or in the pool and clubhouse
  • NO EATING OR DRINKING while in or close to the pool
  • NO GLASS BOTTLES ALLOWED INSIDE THE POOL FENCE, as broken glass in the pool would result in the pool having to be drained and cleaned at a very high cost, not to mention possible injury to others.
  • NO BICYCLES OR SKATEBOARDS inside the pool fence.
See the HOA website for more information.

IMPORTANT SUMMER POOL SAFETY TIPS:
  • If you hear thunder while at the pool, that means lightning is near, so you need to get out of the pool and away from the water immediately.  Since water conducts electricity, there is no safe place in or near water during an electrical storm.
  • If the pool water is cloudy or green with algae, as it was recently due to heavy rain and high usage, please notify the pool company at the phone number on the pool gate or report to Elite.  Swimming in pool water that needs chemical treatment is not safe.

REMINDERS FROM THE ACC
… concerning lawn and property upkeep in the spring and summer months:
  • Without proper treatment, our lawns can quickly be taken over by weeds.
  • Mow your grass regularly and edge around sidewalks/driveways/curbs.  Do not blow grass clippings into the street and gutters.
  • Keep flower beds weeded and neat.
  • Trim trees and shrubbery to keep them looking nice and to keep the sidewalks clear.
  • Check your mailbox and post to see if they need to be repainted.  Remember, all mailboxes in the community must conform to the color, size, and style already present.  New mailbox guidelines have been posted on the ACC page of the HOA website.
  • If your house has shutters, check to see if they are fading or need repair.  The use of 303 Marine Cleaner and/or 303 Marine Protectant has worked for some to restore their shutters.  If not, they will need to be repainted to restore their original color.
  • Check the trim on your house for mold or algae and clean as needed.
  • Remember that garbage/recycling containers must be stored out of sight (garage, shed, backyard, etc.) unless behind an ACC-approved screen.
  • Vehicles must not be parked on the street as a normal/usual parking place.  It is not acceptable to park a vehicle on/over the sidewalk.
  • Examine your fence for needed repairs, protecting, staining, etc.  Currently, fences are not required to be stained, however, it is highly recommended.
  • Remember that ACC approval is required for new fences, fence replacement, and most any other landscaping and construction project.
  • New guidelines for basketball goals have been posted to the ACC page of the HOA website.  If you have or plan to acquire a basketball goal, please be familiar with these guidelines for use and storage.
***All ACC information and guidelines can be found HERE. "Covenants" can be found HERE.
